Function is a facility that is home to CrossFit Rochester - a training service that follows CrossFit principles and is a licensed CrossFit affiliate.
CrossFit is a training philosophy designed to develop an all inclusive, non-discriminatory and adaptive brand of fitness. Simply defined as "constantly varied, functional movements performed at high intensity" ...this definition, while accurately descriptive, is open ended in terms of content and it is relative to the trainee. This is a significant part of the beauty of the ideology. Not only is the program ever evolving, it is scalable to ANYONE willing to work on improving their fitness.
Fitness can be defined as, "The ability to function efficiently and effectively, to enjoy leisure, to be healthy, to resist disease, and to cope with emergency situations." ...an obvious impact on one's quality of life. Fitness affects the athlete's ability to make the team, the elderly person's ability to maintain independence, the fireman's ability to pull someone from burning building and the working mother's ability to make it through a busy day.
At CrossFit Rochester, we consider EVERYONE an athlete. Our coaching will get you to the level of fitness you need whether the objective is to win, survive, or simply enjoy life. We are equipped with the proper knowledge and equipment, not found in most gyms, necessary to perform CrossFit workouts safely and to their full potential.
Working with us, you will find the varied workouts to be challenging and the atmosphere to be both supportive and competitive. If you are willing to work toward a greater fitness, then let's get started.
More About CrossFit
CrossFit is:
...is constantly varied because life, sport and combat are constantly varied and unpredictable, AND because varied training stimulus has been clinically proven to elicit the greatest human adaptations.
...utilizes functional movements because its goal is to deliver workable fitness and not aesthetics (though aesthetics are a fortunate byproduct), AND because functional training stimulus has been clinically proven to elicit the greatest adaptations.
...workouts are performed at high intensity because intensity plays a large role in determining the quality of training stimulus and it helps to erase the line between “cardio” and strength training - a line that life/sport/nature simply do not recognize.
...is for everyone because the programming is 100% scalable through load and intensity. As humans, we all have the same functional needs (to elevate, transport and control our own bodies as well as other objects) and the variance is in the degree at which these functional needs are performed. Grandma needs to take care of herself or accept dependency… the athlete needs to be faster and stronger than his opponent or accept defeat… the soldier needs to kill the enemy or accept death.
CrossFit is not:
...about aesthetics. While aesthetics are a fortunate byproduct of the CrossFit philosophy, (you will look fit, if you are fit) but they are not the primary focus. If your only goal is to look like a bodybuilder or waif-like supermodel, then you may want to join a big box gym or go on some kind of nonsensical diet (good luck with that by the way). However, building real fitness is so much more effective (not to mention healthier) than any fad diet or pills the choice is a no-brainer for the rational mind.
