Ugh- Don't you just hate it when you've got something planned and you've been preparing and anxiously awaiting and... why can't it rain on like Monday morning when nobody would really care - instead of on raceday?
I'm not gonna go slop around in the mud today. It's too much work for not much fun and too damaging to my bike. On the bright side it means I have time to blog, work on scheduling issues and catch a WOD. I'll be there at 9... probably not in the best of moods.
I wonder if it's too late to sign up for that Pittsford triathalon. I could run / bike / swim in the rain. Shoot - the only bike I have is a BMX bike. I guess it is too late for me. Well, good luck to those that are participating (I think Rice, Laura, Ann, Sonnik and Erin were signed up).
I don't have much to say... but Gina wrote up a little something the other day. Her Zone Support Group has been going well and after the last meeting, she had this to say about overcomming hurdles.
We all have challenges or hurdles. I’m not sure if it’s a built-in limitation we have or if we just need to persevere (probably a little of both). For myself, pull ups are a big challenge. I think I’m strong enough but there is something in the movement I just don’t get. I keep looking for things I can do to help me accomplish the movement – like working on the swing, doing reverse pull-ups, etc.. I do believe that with some of our challenges, very diligent (and daily) effort is required to move forward. My hip-flexors at one point became very inflexible – and I had to squat to the slam-balls every time to overcome that. It hurt and it slowed me down, but at least I knew I was getting below parallel. Jumping to the high box has always scared me (ok, so after a few crashes, since I’m not the most graceful person in the world…). I’m on the gray box now, but I know I need to stretch myself a little more and add a plate to it to continue my progress. Um, so yeah, my list of goals is getting longer and longer! How do we get through these challenges without becoming overwhelmed?
I guess I would recommend first of all remembering your strengths, whatever they may be (and you all have them!), then list out and prioritize your challenges. Decide which one you want to work on first. Then spend a little time each day working on it. Ask if there are drills you can do to help you achieve your goal (like doing reverse pull-ups to help strengthen you for kips). Then work on those drills 2-3x per week. And appreciate small victories – getting 2 double-unders in a row is awesome, or increasing your max clean by 5# can be a huge gain! Keep at it and you’ll overcome all of those hurdles, one by one. And it also helps to remind myself after I finish a WOD that no matter how I do or where I stack in rank, I just had a really great workout. J
(No thanks. I'd rather do "murph." See you at 9am!)

Total FAIL day! No triathlon in a downpour for me. Swim and run in the rain... ok, but the biking part is a bit too dicey for Ricey. I've wiped out in the rain before... not fun. Just not enough braking control (or traction) for my taste.

Beth rocked the Tri today, too! Somehow she managed to look fresh as a daisy afterwards!
